Jianne Soriano is a journalism student at Hong Kong Baptist University and a NetMission.Asia ambassador. The organization is composed of tertiary students who work together under the motto ‘For Youth by Youth’ to promote digital inclusion through capacity building sessions, internet-related workshops and direct participation in local and international dialogues.
She also organizes the Youth Internet Governance Forum (Asia Pacific) in Macao (2014), Taipei (2015) and Bangkok (2017). Currently, she serves as the first youth and the youngest member of the Asia Pacific Regional Internet Governance Forum.
Jianne has participated in Internet Governance discussions since the age of 18 after winning a competition with her team’s research on the relationship of cyberbullying and suicide rates. Jianne speaks openly about the importance of youth engagement in policy discussions and the power of youth-led initiatives. As a minority, Jianne is passionate about giving young people platforms and opportunities to effectively exercise their voice on internet issues.
